Exceptional Abbey Beers
Maredsous beer is a Belgian beer with a rich history and a unique brewing process. The beer is named after the Benedictine Abbey of Maredsous, which is located in the village of Denée in the Namur province of Belgium. The abbey was founded in 1872 and is still home to a community of Benedictine monks today.
The history of Maredsous beer dates back to the 1920s when the monks of the abbey began brewing beer to support themselves. Since 1963, the Maredsous abbey beers have been brewed, under license, by Duvel Moortgat. While the monks are not involved with brewing the beers on a day-to-day basis, the original Benedictine recipes, which have been passed down for centuries, are still used today.
Maredsous beer is brewed using traditional methods and high-quality ingredients, including water from a natural spring, premium malted barley, and hops. Maredsous beer is fermented twice, first in large tanks and then in bottles or kegs. This process gives the beer its distinctive flavor and natural carbonation.
There are several Maredsous beers, including a Blond, a Brune (Dubbel), and Triple. The Blonde is a refreshing beer with a deep golden color and a crisp, clean finish. The Brune is a darker beer with a rich, malty flavor and a slightly sweet finish. The Triple is strong and complex with a deep, golden color and a spicy, fruity flavor.
In addition to its core range, Maredsous also produces a number of seasonal beers, including a Christmas Ale and a Grand Cru. The Christmas Ale is a spicy, warming beer with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg, while the Grand Cru is a rich, complex beer with a strong, fruity flavor and a hint of bitterness.
Maredsous beer is widely available in Belgium and is exported to over 40 countries around the world. The beer has won numerous awards for its quality and taste, including several gold medals at the World Beer Awards. Sante!
