A Toast to the Blue Mustang

Anyone who has ever entered or left the Denver Airport has surely noticed the giant blue horse with the glowing red eyes. The art piece’s actual name is Blue Mustang, but its nickname here locally is Blucifer. The nickname comes from the fact that the three- story tall, 9,000-pound sculpture fell on its creator, Luis Jiménez, resulting in his death. The final touches on the piece had to be completed by Luis’ family, friends and two professional low-rider and racecar painters. Fitting, since Jiménez was a big fan of traditional Mexican muralists.

The big blue horse’s demonic appearance and bright red eyes have made it a local legend. Badass says it best! And since Bruz is famous for our badass Belgian beers, we thought it was time to honor our local devil-horse with a fitting beer. Our beertender, Bryan Walker, came up with a recipe for a strong and dark brew, and gave it a Belgian spelling--Bleucifer.

Bleucifer is a malt-forward take on a Belgian-style Dark Strong Ale (Quadrupel). It was brewed with three different Belgian specialty malts, three different Belgian dark brewing sugars, and was fermented with yeast from the famous Trappist monastery, Chimay.

Flavors and aromas of caramelized bananas, sultanas and gentle warming spices give way to a toasted and slightly biscuity dry finish. The lack of warming alcohol flavors you’ve come to love in a Quad might have you seeing red, but we can assure you, it’s a very strong beer at 9.7% ABV.

Bleucifer is on tap now at both Bruz taprooms for as long as it lasts. Come in and get your badassery on with a potent and festive glass of Bleucifer!

Santè!
