Bouckaert had previouslyl brewed for a decade at Brewery Rodenbach. When Peter joined New Belgium, the company’s portfolio included five Belgian-inspired beers.
He was an early advocate of brewing hoppier beers outside the Belgian tradition, exploring IPAs, Czech-style lagers, fruits, spices, wood-aging and fermentation, and experimenting with yeast and microbe strains from around the world.
Peter earned the equivalent of a Master’s degree in brewing and fermentation technology from the University of Ghent, Belgium, as well as a Quality Engineer degree from CKZ Kortrijk. He was honored to be awarded the 2013 Russell Schehrer Award for Innovation in Brewing by the Brewers Association.
Frezi Bouckaert grew up in Kortrijk, Belgium, a city located in the Flemish province, West Flanders. In 1989 Frezi graduated from university, became a certified financial planner and started working at a bank in Brussels. She also met Peter that same year. Married in 1992, their love story and beer story continue to evolve.
Frezi has been in hospitality since she was 16 years old and paid herself through college as a bartender. She is also well known around New Belgium Brewing as a superb bartender, tour hero and mentor for new employees. She was also nominated to be one of the best bartenders in Fort Collins. Together Peter & Frezi Started a brewery in Belgium (before moving to the US) and in 1996 they moved to the United States to kick start New Belgium Brewing. They opened Purpose Brewing in 2016. Now both of them are international judges and love their favorite breweries in Belgium. Frezi & Peter have had the pleasure of leading over 1000 people on tours of Belgium.
